Ballet – Royal Academy of Dance
Ballet Classes are available for children, both boys and girls from 3 years of age. Ballet classes at Tanya Brooks Dance Academy follow the RAD syllabus and offer classes from Pre-Primary through to Grade 8 Ballet.
It is recommended that all children wanting to learn to dance spend a number of years studying Classical Ballet to help gain poise, posture, co-ordination, musicality and muscular strength to build a solid foundation for technique and physical ability.
At the age of 6, children are given the opportunity to commence preparations for Ballet Exams, at which time it is important to start attending ballet classes twice a week. It is not compulsory for children to take these examinations, although it is strongly encouraged.
Using a thematic approach our baby ballerinas discover basic dance concepts in a fun environment through music and movement. Children develop skills such as co-ordination, musicality, listening, fine and gross motor control and spatial awareness.
During these lessons not only are there group activities to encourage team member skills and concepts of direction, but the students are also encouraged to use their own imagination in free dance time. This enables the children to develop free expression, creativity and gain self confidence and self esteem.
